The Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Miscellaneous Offences (Task Force) has seized 35 vehicles that were parked illegally and causing major traffic congestion on the Jibowu corridor of the Yaba area of the state.

He voiced concern about the continuous growth of the federal government’s expenses, including wages, pensions, and other non-debt recurrent expenditures. This trend persisted despite only slight increases in revenue and a noticeable rise in pressure for debt servicing.

Kuye expressed regret over the stark contrast in the wage bill, which surged from N2.4 trillion in 2011 to N8.7 trillion in 2023, especially in a country where 113 million people are living in multidimensional poverty. He found this situation alarming and difficult to justify.

He said: “It is sad to see these transport operators move their business from their premises to the main road meant for free vehicular movement just for their selfish gains. Their actions cause increased travel time and unnecessary chaos once it gets dark.”

The chairman also said that the impounded vehicles have been registered and their owners will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“It’s high time we put a stop to this inhumanity to Lagosians plying that route. We will ensure constant patrol and monitoring of the Jibowu corridor especially at night, when such infractions usually occur, and make sure anyone caught inflicting unnecessary discomfort to road users is arrested and charged to court,” he said.

Jejeloye cautioned transporters and operators, both in Yaba and across the state, against engaging in such behavior. He emphasized the importance of utilizing designated parks and garages for conducting their businesses.

“Traffic build-up caused by illegal garages and parking would no longer be tolerated.”

“The traffic bottlenecks are not natural, neither is it created by God, but is caused by human activities, which have to be regulated and checked,” he added.
