In what appears to be a retaliatory attack following the death of their leader, Maigemu, at the hands of a combined security force in Kebbi, suspected Lakurawa terrorists struck Birnin Dede village on Sunday, killing 13 people.
Sources revealed that the assailants also torched at least eight nearby villages within the Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
The attack was reportedly carried out in response to the killing of the Lakurawa leader by security forces.
One village was reportedly spared, as it was under the protection of the Army.
“We seek protection from Allah against this dreaded group,” he said via telephone.
The Chairman of Arewa Local Government, Sani Aliyu, confirmed the attack to Channels Television.
Recall that combined security forces, with the support of Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, recently killed the group’s kingpin, Maigemu, as part of ongoing efforts to curb the activities of armed groups in the North-West state.
The spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, did not respond to calls or text messages seeking further details on the incident.
