Mustapha Sule Lamido has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Jigawa State after receiving the endorsement of party members during a primary election held in Dutse on Sunday.
The affirmation exercise, attended by delegates and supporters from across the state’s 287 wards, was observed by officials from the PDP national headquarters, the Independent National Electoral Commission, and security agencies.
In his acceptance speech, Lamido thanked party members for their support and pledged to offer purposeful leadership if elected.
“I stand before you today with a heart full of gratitude and a deep sense of responsibility,” he said.
Accepting the party’s mandate, Lamido recalled his 2023 governorship bid, noting that although the PDP lost the election, it gained significant public support and established a strong political foundation.
“Though we did not secure victory then, we earned the confidence of hundreds of thousands of our people and laid a strong foundation,” he stated.
The PDP candidate said the state continues to grapple with economic hardship, weak public services, and governance challenges, stressing the need for a new direction.
Reaffirming his commitment to development, he said his agenda would focus on economic growth, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and institutional reforms.
“These are not mere promises; they are a contract with the people, and I intend to see them through,” Lamido said.
He maintained that his campaign is driven by a desire to improve the lives of Jigawa residents and restore confidence in governance.
“But let me be clear: we are not here to lament; we are here to fix it,” he declared.
“We are here to rebuild Jigawa into a state that works for all, where leadership is accountable, resources are managed responsibly, and opportunities are accessible to every citizen,” he said.
Calling for unity within the party, Lamido urged members to remain committed ahead of the 2027 election.
“To the people of Jigawa: I hear you, I see you, and I feel your pains. Give me the opportunity to serve you,” he appealed.
“Together, we will rise and rebuild our dear state,” he concluded.
Announcing the outcome of the primary, the chairman of the electoral committee, Isah Ahmed, declared Lamido the PDP’s duly affirmed governorship candidate for Jigawa State.
