The General Manager of Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki, has condemned the increasing incidents of assaults on the agency’s officials.

He made this statement in response to a recent assault on agency officials, who were attacked with dangerous weapons and charms during a routine monitoring exercise along Musical Village, Awolowo Road, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos.

He emphasized that regardless of any intimidation or harassment, the agency remains steadfast in fulfilling its mandate of guaranteeing the safety and security of buildings throughout the state.

He said, “These assailants not only obstruct our staff but also hold them hostage for hours. These acts of hooliganism will not deter us from carrying out our duties.

“Thankfully, we managed to overcome these attacks without any casualties. Our staff’s resilience and quick responses have played a crucial role in overpowering the assailants and preventing more severe consequences. These are the kinds of challenges we faced daily in our bid to ensure that buildings in the state are safe and fit for habilitation.”

The head of LASBCA urged the public to assist the agency in its efforts to combat the problem of building collapses throughout the state.

He noted, “The incidents of harassment and attacks tend to jeopardise the agency monitoring activities and can potentially pose significant threats to the public.”

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to upholding and enforcing building standards in Lagos State, even in challenging circumstances.
