LASG warns against inappropriate waste disposal during Yuletide

The Lagos State Government cautions residents against improper waste disposal during the Yuletide festivities.

In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, urged residents throughout the state to uphold a clean environment for a healthy living experience during and after the Yuletide.

Wahab emphasized the importance of residents demonstrating environmental responsibility during the Christmas and New Year celebrations by ensuring proper disposal of all generated waste.

He said, “I would like to urge all residents to endeavour to maintain a clean, safe and sustainable environment always because if you continue to haunt the environment through improper waste disposal, it will come back to you through flooding.”

He noted that “to avoid the spread of all forms of diseases, all forms of waste generated during the festive period must be properly disposed of through bagging and placed at the appropriate places for LAWMA officials to pick up.”

The commissioner provided reassurance to residents that, anticipating a surge in waste generation during this season, the government, in collaboration with the Ministry and the Lagos State Waste Management Authority, will persist in eliminating refuse heaps in Lagos.

He emphasized that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration is actively leading the charge for a healthier population and a cleaner environment, urging Lagosians to refrain from actions that could adversely affect the environment.
