The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has reacted to a media publication alleging that ad-hoc staff engaged during the July 12, 2025, local government elections have not received their payments.
In a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department, the commission dismissed the claim, stressing: “We want to be absolutely clear: this report is inaccurate and sensational.
“LASIEC highly values the dedicated ad-hoc staff who were crucial to the success of the recent elections. Contrary to the claims made, we have already completed payments to all verified staff within the last two weeks—a record for the commission.
“We have a small number of outstanding cases, and these are entirely due to individuals submitting incomplete or incorrect bank details. The affected staff have been contacted by their respective Electoral Officers and advised on how to correct their information. We are working to verify the corrected details and will process those payments promptly.
“The use of the word outrage in the publication is misleading. At no point did the commission receive any formal complaints or petitions from staff about unpaid wages. The insinuation of embezzlement is false and damages public trust in democratic institutions.
“LASIEC remains committed to our core values of transparency, integrity, and fairness. We encourage all media outlets and the public to verify facts before publishing them to avoid the spread of misinformation.”
