A former Director General (DG) of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS), Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has been selected as the Asagba of Asaba designate.
Speaking on Sunday, Anthony Edozien, the Ochendo of Asaba, said the selection process adhered to the relevant statutes regulating traditional rule in Delta state.
“Prof Epiphany Azinge, SAN, has been selected among 10 contenders after due process,” he said.
“The selection process was in line with the traditional rulers and chief’s edict of 1979, applicable to Delta state.
“Other contenders, apart from Prof. Azinge, are Tony Ogugua Konwea, Prof. Emmanuel Onwuka, and Ogbuechi Chinedu Esealuka, among others.
”Azinge, a professor of law, holds the traditional chieftaincy title of the Okilolo of Asaba.”
NAN reports that Azinge’s confirmation as the 14th Asagba of Asaba designate was preceded by a unanimous endorsement from five prominent quarters of Asaba, led by Iyagba, which paved the way for the ruling council’s formal approval.
In February, Chike Edozien, the 13th Asagba of Asaba, passed away at the age of 99.
