‘Leave or die’, ISWAP issues quit notice to Borno communities

Just four days after killing fifteen fishermen in the Tumbun Rogo community, the Islamic State – West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists have issued a notice to residents of Kukawa LGA, warning them to leave their communities or face death.

A resident who fled to Maiduguri three hours after receiving the threat disclosed this to Channels Television.

Recounting his experience, the resident, who wished to remain anonymous, explained that the terrorists had gathered residents from various communities in the LGA early Thursday morning and ordered them to vacate their homes before Saturday or face death.

Following the threat, communities began to evacuate immediately, with some relocating to Kross Kauwa and others to Monguno.

Kukawa LGA, located near Lake Chad, is known for its fishing, farming, and other agricultural activities. It is surrounded by Lake Chad and has a presence of both the Nigerian Army and Navy troops.

Although these communities were displaced during the insurgency, areas like Kross Kauwa, Baga, Doron-Baga, Kukawa, and Tumbun Rogo were resettled by the Professor Babagana Zulum administration.

Despite the restoration of relative peace and stability, Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists have continued to attack these communities. The area’s socioeconomic value, especially its fishing and farming activities, provides essential resources for the terrorists’ survival and financial support, making it a target for their ongoing attacks.
