LG Election: RSIEC insists it received Voter Register from INEC

The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has denied claims made by the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State, regarding the release of the Voter Registration Manifest to RSIEC.

At a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, Rivers State INEC REC, Johnson Alalibo, stated that while RSIEC had requested the voter register, it had not yet been provided due to administrative reasons.

However, RSIEC responded, clarifying that it had received the voter registration document from INEC as early as November 2023. This was confirmed by RSIEC’s Commissioner for Public Affairs and Civic Education, Tobin Tamunotonye, during an interview with Channels Television.

Tamunotonye also addressed concerns about a court ruling related to the voter registration details, citing a judgement that directed RSIEC to use the 2023 voter registration data. He assured that nothing is obstructing the elections, as the Commission is operating in full compliance with the law.
