The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has shifted the deadline for the submission of individual annual income tax returns to April 14.

On February 25, LIRS had asked individual taxpayers in Lagos to file their annual tax returns for the 2026 year of assessment on or before March 31.

However, in a statement issued on Monday and signed by Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, head of corporate communications, Ayodele Subair, executive chairman of LIRS, explained that the extension from the initial March 31 deadline is aimed at giving taxpayers additional time to complete their filings.

Subair urged individuals to prioritise the prompt submission of their returns, emphasising that tax compliance should be regarded as a routine responsibility.

He further noted that the extension is designed to help taxpayers submit accurate returns without mistakes.

The chairman also reiterated that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the only authorised method for submitting annual returns, as manual submissions have been completely discontinued.

“Individuals are therefore required to file their returns exclusively through the LIRS eTax portal: https://etax.lirs.net,” he added.

Subair described the platform as “secure, user-friendly, and accessible 24/7”.

“Individuals to ensure that their TaxID (Tax Identification Number) is correctly captured in their submissions,” the LIRS chairman added.

He advised taxpayers who require assistance to visit any of the agency’s offices or contact LIRS through its official communication channels.
