Lone accident claims life of ‘motor boy’ in Lagos

A vehicle assistant, commonly known as a ‘motor boy,’ lost his life in a solo accident at Anthony ‘Oke’ en route to Gbagada in Lagos State on Saturday morning.

In the unfortunate incident, the ‘motor boy’ was discovered deceased, while the tanker’s driver was found unconscious and subsequently rescued by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) operatives.

LASTMA spokesman, Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement, said immediate investigation into the accident “revealed that the driver of the containerised truck with registration number T 20345 LA lost control due to brake failure”.

The truck which was ascending Anthony Bridge immediately rolled down.

“Immediately the accident happened, LASTMA personnel rushed to the scene and rescued the driver unconsciously, while his motor boy was found dead,” the statement read.

Officials from the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) swiftly conveyed the rescued driver to Gbagada General Hospital with security provided by Ilupeju Police Station.

Bakare Oki, the Acting General Manager of LASTMA, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased ‘motor boy’ during his visit to the accident scene. He cautioned the motoring public, especially truck drivers, to ensure their vehicles, including the braking system, are in optimal condition before embarking on journeys within the state and across the country.
