LP releases timetable for by-elections, sets senate form at N5m

In preparation for the upcoming by-elections on February 3, 2024, the Labour Party (LP) has issued a timetable and activity schedule for candidates vying for Senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Assembly seats.

National Secretary of the Labour Party, Umar Ibrahim, has announced that the issuance of forms will begin on December 28, 2023, concluding on January 4, 2024, with primaries scheduled for January 7, 2024.

The party’s leadership has also endorsed fees for both Expression of Interest and Nomination forms as follows: Senate – N1.5m and N3.5m; House of Representatives – N1m and N2m; and House of Assembly – N100,000 and N500,000.

Female aspirants and Persons Living with Disabilities (PWD) aspirants are exempt from paying fees for Expression of Interest Forms only.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set February 3, 2024, for the by-elections resulting from resignations or deaths of members in the National and State Houses of Assembly. These vacancies are spread across two Senatorial Districts, four Federal Constituencies, and three State Constituencies, spanning nine states in the Federation.
