The National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has dismissed a petition filed by the Labour Party’s (LP) candidate, Abiodun Dabiri, challenging the election of Wasiu Sanni Eshinlokun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the senator for Lagos State Central Senatorial District. The election was held on February 25, 2023.

The three-member panel, headed by Justice Ashua Ewah, ruled against the petition and affirmed Eshinlokun’s election as the senator for the district.

The tribunal ruled yesterday that the petition was inadmissible because the issue raised is a pre-election matter.

Other members of the tribunal are Justices Abdulahi Ozegya and M.A. Sambo.
The tribunal agreed with the arguments of Wahab Shittu (SAN), the lead counsel to Eshinlokun, as well as the counsel to INEC and the APC, that the petition should be dismissed because it lacked merit.

The tribunal therefore affirmed the validity of the election that elected Eshinlokun as the senator representing Lagos Central in the National Assembly.
