After almost three years of controversy and legal disputes, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a new Alaafin.

This was announced in a statement on Friday by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade.

He revealed that Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade, following extensive consultations and divinations, was recommended by the Oyomesi and has now been officially approved by the Governor.

The commissioner added that a formal statement to this effect was issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Ademola Ojo.

This announcement, he noted, brings an end to the social and legal disputes that have followed the passing of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, on April 22, 2022.

Ojo urged the people of Oyo State to join the Government in celebrating this significant event and to offer their support to the newly appointed Alaafin of Oyo.

The Commissioner also prayed that the new Alaafin’s reign would bring peace, prosperity, and unity to the historic Oyo Kingdom.
