Makinde promises to work with traditional rulers to tackle insecurity in Oyo

The Oyo State Governor, Engr ‘Seyi Makinde, on Wednesday, pledged his administration readiness to continue to work with traditional rulers in the state to tackle insecurity facing the state. adding that his government would also continue to protect the lives and properties of citizens.

Governor Makinde who made this promise during a meeting with  traditional rulers and security agencies, held at the House of Chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan assured that his government would equally take seriously the protection of lives and properties of the citizens.

The Governor explained that part of measures lined up to improve security situation in the state, was the setting up of a Security Task Force comprising cabinet members and heads of security agencies including Operation Burst and Amotekun.

Makinde stressed  that the state’s Security Task Force was set up as a matter of emergency to address the various security challenges and ensure that the state is always on top of security situation.

He therefore called on traditional rulers to join hands with the state government to improve the security of the state.

Earlier, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III, said that state governors should not be blamed for the insecurity within their states because they are not the ones controlling the security agencies in their states.

He revealed that all the security agencies in the states are being controlled by the Federal Government, as security is on the exclusive list of the Nigeria Constitution.

While advocating for the introduction of  State Police, the Monarch said without embracing state police, all the state governments will remain puppets under the Federal Government.

The meeting had in attendance the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III; Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, a representative of the Soun of Ogbomoso, members of the Oyo State Traditional Council.

Others are Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Mrs. Ngozi Onadeko and other security commanders, among others.
