A Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan has sentenced a 26-year-old man, Awalu Garba, to five months imprisonment for stealing dried catfish valued at N22,000.
Garba had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of stealing levelled against him.
The court’s president, Mrs O.E. Owoseni found him guilty as charged.
According to Owoseni, a plea of guilt remains the best form of evidence, since nobody would confess to what they did not do, and no further proof was required by the court.
“Therefore, Garba is sentenced to five months’ imprisonment with an option of six months of community service,” Owoseni held.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Ayodele Ayeni, informed the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 22, at about 8.30 p.m, at Bodijafish market, Ibadan, Oyo State (NAN)
