Man stabs wife to death over alleged infidelity in Ekiti

Onipede Dare, a man, is said to have stabbed his wife, Kumapayi Arinola, to death over an alleged adultery.

The terrible incident occurred on Saturday morning at the couple’s apartment on Christ Avenue in the Adebayo district of Ado-Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State.

One of the area’s inhabitants, who did not want her name published, informed reporters that the couple had sent the older of their two children on an errand and closed the door to their flat; the man questioned the wife about the issue, and an argument developed between them, leading to a fight.

In the process, Onipede who is said to be a law enforcement officer and his deceased wife who worked in a chemist shop, had stabbed each other with sharp objects.

The source said, “They locked themselves up inside their apartment with their younger child of about five years .
“The man confronted the deceased over allegations that she was cheating on him, a fight ensued leading him to stab his wife to death.
“At that moment, people had come to separate the fight only to meet the door to their apartment locked. When they could not break the door open, some of the people around removed some of the building ceiling to gain entry into their apartment.
“They met the deceased and her husband with injuries all over their bodies. The woman looked unconscious and was immediately rushed to the hospital but she gave up the ghost before they got to the hospital”.
The source added that the matter has been reported at the police station and the husband who was severely injured is currently receiving treatment in a hospital while being closely monitored by the police
The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Ekiti State Command, DSP Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the incident said the children of the couple reported the incident adding that investigation has commenced into the matter.
 “We received the information from their children.
The incident happened on Saturday, 27/4/24.
“The police have commenced investigation into the matter.”
