The 31 Artillery Brigade, Minna Military Cantonment, Niger State, has called for continuous citizens’ support to tackle contemporary security challenges bedeviling the country.
The 2022 WASA, which was held over the weekend, witnessed unprecedented turnout from within and outside the barracks community.
Speaking with newsmen, General Bobbo explained that WASA 2022 was celebrated in 2023 due to exigencies of duty that warranted continued engagement of the Brigade in various operational activities in Niger State, up to the general elections, as well as supplementary elections, noting that, it was better late than never.
He said: “WASA is a highly cherished aspect of regimation, which is an all important part of the ethnics and traditions of the Nigerian Army, adding that soldiers will not allow it to die.”
He added that WASA is a forum that provides the platform for social interaction within the barracks community, away from war fighting or conflict related issues.
The Commander 31 Artillery Brigade revealed that the Brigade had undertaken several assigned missions in a joint environment to tackle contemporary security challenges bedeviling Niger State and the nation at large.
He urged soldiers to continue doing the great job of protecting the country, hence the need for support from the citizens, assuring that the mission of the Military High Command is to encourage the soldiers to put in their best and do what they are supposed to do.
Earlier, the special guest of honour, Colonel Gorden Ebiye Ogu (retd) lauded the soldiers and officers of the Artillery for the colourful outing during the event.
Colonel Ogu thanked the Commander 31 Artillery Brigade for making the yearly event a reality.
The occasion featured cultural displays by ethnic groups in the barracks community, tug of war, presentation of awards/ certificates, beating of retreat as well as campfire night among others.
Beating Retreat has its origins in the early years of organised warfare when the beating of drums and the parading of Post Guards heralded the closing of camp gates and the lowering of flags at the end of the day.
