The military has announced plans to harness the expertise of law-abiding citizens involved in local firearm and military equipment production while intensifying efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal arms nationwide.

Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, highlighted this during an operational visit to frontline troops under Operation Safe Haven in Plateau State. The visit included a review of locally made arms and ammunition seized during operations.

During his tour, General Musa visited the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, where he inspected facilities and met with the General Officer Commanding. He later proceeded to Sector 8 in Mangu to assess military hardware and operational readiness.

The CDS assured troops of enhanced resources, including advanced weaponry, vehicles, and welfare improvements, to bolster operational effectiveness.

General Musa urged troops to intensify efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts, emphasising professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights in their operations.

He also proposed engaging skilled local manufacturers in collaboration with the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria to enhance the country’s military production capabilities.

The CDS praised the dedication of troops in maintaining peace and security despite significant challenges, reaffirming the military’s commitment to defeating insurgency and ensuring national security.
