The Military High Command has refuted claims that terrorists abducted 150 people in Gobir, Sokoto State.

In a statement issued by Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, it was clarified that the mass killing and burial depicted in a viral video occurred in a neighboring African country, not Nigeria.

General Buba detailed that on August 29, 2024, around 5 p.m., troops from OPERATION HADARIN DAJI stationed at FOB Zurmi in Zurmi LGA, Zamfara State, conducted a fighting patrol to disrupt a terrorist gathering in Kwashabawa Village.

During the operation, two MRAPs (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles) became immobilized due to swampy terrain caused by recent rains.

The statement explained that the troops dismounted and demobilized the MRAPs after attempts to recover them proved unsuccessful. This action was taken to prevent the vehicles from being used by terrorists.

General Buba urged Nigerians to be cautious of terrorist efforts to spread misinformation, disinformation, and fake news as part of their propaganda tactics.
