Umana Okon Umana, the minister of Niger Delta affairs, has praised the government and people of Akwa Ibom State for making outstanding developmental accomplishments in the state’s brief history of 35 years.

In addition to the advancements in development, the minister claimed that the state was fortunate to have leaders who prioritize development.

According to a statement released on Wednesday, Umana made the remark at an awards ceremony held at the Ibom Icon Hotels and Golf Resort in Uyo.

As part of celebrations commemorating the 35th anniversary of the founding of the state, the minister received a productivity award for his patriotic contribution to the nation.

The minister praised the state government for its policies and dedication to maintaining peace and security in Akwa Ibom, which was represented by his wife Florence.

He said, “I’m grateful to God and Akwa Ibom people for this honour. I congratulate the Akwa Ibom people for the peaceful nature of the state.

“It’s a different state from when it was created 35 years ago and God has blessed the state with good leaders.”

The state administration acknowledged the minister’s keen interest in the growth of the region and thanked him for helping to win the federal government’s support for the establishment of the largest oil and gas free trade zone in Akwa Ibom State.

The new development structure proposed for the region, which seeks partnership and collaboration with the governors of the Niger Delta Region, was praised by Governor Udom Emmanuel and the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

Udom said that collaboration with the Niger Delta Development Commission is essential to the region’s development and that programs carried out by the commission might not be able to solve the region’s unique problems without such collaboration.

She pointed out that the goal of informing the public about advances would be accomplished once there was synergy between the two parties.

He therefore praised Umana for his consistent dedication to state-building over the years. Emmanuel referred to Obong Umana as an outstanding son of Akwa Ibom State who has made priceless contributions to the state and left traces of accomplishments everywhere he is given duties.

He requested assistance and cooperation from the NDDC and the government in order for Umana to be successful.
