The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stated that the temporary Terminal 3 (T3) at Murtala Muhammed International Airport was briefly closed on Wednesday after an electrical spark.

In a statement, FAAN explained that the spark occurred within an operational office, leading to smoke emission at approximately 14:05 hours.

The authority added that electrical maintenance is currently underway to ensure all systems are fully functional ahead of reopening. It further noted that all flights scheduled for Terminal 3 have been redirected to Terminal 2.

FAAN reassured the public that the situation is under control, with personnel from the Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Services (ARFFS) responding swiftly to contain the incident.

The incident comes less than a month after a fire outbreak at the same airport disrupted operations in February.

Commenting on the earlier occurrence, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, said preliminary findings suggested the fire may have originated on the ground floor of Terminal 1—where offices and a restaurant are situated—before spreading to the roof.

She added that several individuals sustained injuries, while confirming that no fatalities were recorded.
