Former Nigerian Military President, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, has described the Mokwa flood, which claimed over 200 lives, as “unfortunate but an act of God.”
Babangida made this remark while receiving a state government delegation led by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba on a Sallah homage at his Uphill Residence in Minna.
Expressing his condolences to the people of Mokwa and the entire Niger State over the flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area, Babangida urged residents to pray for the souls of those who lost their lives.
IBB stated, “What happened in Mokwa is unfortunate, but it is ordained by Allah. It is beyond our powers, and this is why we should all continue to pray for the souls of the deceased.”
He praised Governor Umaru Bago’s administration for its developmental initiatives, urging their continuation, and assured the government of his unwavering support.
Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba, who led the state delegation, said the visit was aimed at seeking Babangida’s blessings and fatherly advice.
Garba acknowledged the retired general’s concern over the Mokwa incident and expressed gratitude for his consistent guidance. He added that the people of Niger State, and Nigeria at large, value Babangida’s dedication to the nation and assured him that the state government would not let him down, emphasizing his role as a pillar of hope for the country.
