A woman and her three children have died after a fire destroyed the Rugar Audu Badali Fulani settlement in Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) disclosed in a statement on Saturday that the incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday.
The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and her three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.
According to SEMA, the victims were buried in accordance with Islamic rites, while other members of the household were rendered homeless by the fire.
The agency said it conducted a joint assessment and condolence visit to the affected community alongside officials of the Karasuwa LGA and other community stakeholders.
During the visit, the team assessed the level of destruction and documented damage to residential buildings and household belongings.
SEMA also said it met with the bereaved family and other affected residents to determine their immediate needs and assess their psychosocial wellbeing.
The agency noted that the assessment revealed an urgent need for emergency relief materials, temporary accommodation and psychosocial support for survivors displaced by the incident.
SEMA expressed condolences to Bukar, his surviving family members and the people of Karasuwa, while praying for the souls of those who died.
The agency also pledged to coordinate humanitarian assistance and mobilise resources to support residents affected by the fire.
It further called for collective efforts to prevent similar fire incidents in communities across the state.
