At least 21 people have lost their lives in a motor accident that occurred along the Kaduna-Abuja highway, near the border between Kaduna and Niger States, on Thursday.

The accident involved a truck and a commercial passenger bus traveling from Abuja and Katsina State towards Kano.

A source from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kaduna State reported that the crash happened near a traffic diversion in Niger State, where ongoing reconstruction of the Kaduna-Abuja highway has forced vehicles from both directions onto a single lane.

According to the FRSC official, the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, causing significant traffic congestion on the busy highway for several hours.

Three surviving passengers were taken to Umaru Musa Memorial Hospital in Sabon-Wuse, near the Kaduna-Niger border, for medical treatment, while the bodies of the victims were deposited in the hospital’s mortuary.
