Mutfwang backs State Police creation

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reaffirmed his strong support for establishing state police as part of efforts to combat insecurity in Plateau State and across Nigeria.

Speaking at the special court session to open the 2025/2026 legal year in Jos, the governor stressed that the moment for state police had arrived.

“I believe the time for creating state police is now. With state police, we will respond more effectively and address situations faster,” he said.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for endorsing the call for state police and urged the National Assembly to sustain momentum on the issue.

On local security measures, Mutfwang disclosed that the government would, within two weeks, recruit 1,450 new personnel into Operation Rainbow.

“Yes, insecurity has confronted us directly, but we are doing all we can. By God’s grace, we will add 1,450 fresh personnel to strengthen security. We have not shirked our responsibility to protect citizens, and we will not,” he affirmed.

The governor appealed for stronger cooperation between communities and security agencies, particularly in intelligence gathering.

“As government, we cannot do much without credible intelligence. Communities are best placed to tell us what is happening. That is why we have created helplines across the state to respond quickly to distress calls,” he explained.

Beyond security, Mutfwang commended the Plateau judiciary for upholding integrity and pledged continued support for its welfare.

“I commend you for not allowing yourselves to become the subject of public opprobrium. We will keep improving conditions of service for judicial officers and ensure retirees do not face hardship,” he said.

He confirmed that directives had been issued for the payment of outstanding entitlements to retired judges and promised to resolve arrears of robe allowances.

Concluding, he urged both the bar and bench to uphold ethics, conscience and the fear of God in the new legal year.

The event drew judges, senior advocates, Nigerian Bar Association members, traditional rulers and top government officials.
