The Nigerian singer popularly known as Mr P, Peter Okoye has responded to critics following his decision to change the birthday he previously shared with his twin brother, Paul Okoye.

On Monday, the singer announced that he will now celebrate his birthday on November 30 instead of November 18, a date both brothers had marked publicly for years.

The move sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many questioning the decision and arguing that family ties, especially between twins, should remain unbroken despite disputes.

Reacting to the backlash, Mr P said that if being “blood” truly mattered, it should have been evident when his brothers “cheated me for over 20 years”.

The 44-year-old also accused his family of spreading negative narratives about him without considering their relationship.

He suggested that due to ongoing legal matters, he would no longer maintain the same level of closeness with them.

“We were not “blood” when they were stealing from me. We were not “blood” when they were creating false narratives about me,” he wrote.

“Now that I’ve uncovered the betrayal that has been going on for over 20yrs plus, suddenly we’re blood? No… it doesn’t work like that. We are still in court! Forgiveness doesn’t mean Accessibility. Again! Una go dey alright.”

In recent years, Peter has remained in the spotlight due to his dispute with Paul and their elder brother, Jude Okoye, following the breakup of their music group, Psquare.

The group initially split in 2017 over disagreements involving Jude’s role as manager. They reunited in November 2021 and held a concert shortly after.

However, the reconciliation was short-lived, as Paul confirmed another split in 2024, alleging that Peter was involved in his arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

Peter later raised concerns about alleged irregularities in their former management, leading to renewed tensions and legal battles within the family.
