The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has stepped up its aerial operations against terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and other criminal activities across the North-West, increasing its presence in Sokoto State to bolster ongoing joint security efforts.
In a statement posted on its verified X account on Sunday, the NAF said the initiative is designed to strengthen aerial surveillance, maintain pressure on criminal elements and enhance the ability of security forces to respond quickly to emerging threats within the Joint Operations Area.
The heightened air operations are seen as crucial in tackling asymmetric threats, with terrorists and bandits often taking advantage of rugged terrain, mobility and concealment to evade ground troops.
Through the reach, speed and flexibility of air power, NAF is seeking to locate and disrupt hostile elements, restrict their freedom of movement and create operational opportunities for ground forces to consolidate their efforts.
The initiative also highlights the importance of effective air-ground coordination in tackling evolving security challenges across the region.
The NAF said the effort aligns with the commitment of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, to maintaining a professional and mission-ready force capable of delivering air power effects in collaboration with sister services and other security agencies.
The Service reiterated its commitment to using air power and joint operations to protect lives and property, degrade terrorist and criminal networks, and support efforts to restore lasting peace and security across the North-West and the country.
