The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has confiscated cartons of aphrodisiac products and sex enhancement drugs worth N12 million in Sokoto.
Mr. Garba Adamu, NAFDAC Coordinator in the state, informed the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that the agency’s patrol team seized the items during routine patrols in various markets in Sokoto and surrounding areas.
Adamu stated that the products were unregistered and highly unsafe due to the dangerous ingredients used in their production. He also noted that the packaging featured inappropriate pornographic images.
He urged the public to avoid purchasing such products from unlicensed premises and to buy only registered and safe products from licensed outlets.
”We also call on the general public to always report hawkers and dealers of such products to NAFDAC, as well as report any adverse reactions they may get from taking such products or any other regulated products.
“Some marketers are in the habit of dumping expired or about-to-expire products in markets in Sokoto and environs, while some are taken to border markets and rural areas for consumption,” he said.
The coordinator warned traders against selling adulterated, counterfeit, unregistered, and expired goods, emphasizing that NAFDAC will maintain continuous enforcement.
He mentioned that the operation also targeted agrochemicals and cosmetics stores as part of the agency’s efforts to ensure that only quality and approved products are available in the markets.
He urged Nigerians to always check NAFDAC registration numbers, as well as the manufacturing and expiration dates of items before use.
Adamu praised sister agencies, law enforcement, traders’ associations, individuals, and groups for their support in NAFDAC’s mission to protect public health.
