The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal factory producing counterfeit cosmetic products at Benue Plaza, Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.
In a post shared on its X handle on Tuesday, the agency revealed that the factory was closed after operatives raided the premises and uncovered a range of unregistered chemicals, packaging materials, and expired products being revalidated for sale.
During the operation, NAFDAC seized over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products. The confiscated items included mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners, which were all moved to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
“The Agency estimates the street value of the seized items at approximately ₦50 million,” NAFDAC stated.
The agency also advised the public to exercise caution when purchasing cosmetic products and to report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
