The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has unveiled a new programme aimed at expanding educational opportunities, mentorship, and international exposure for students across Nigeria.

The initiative, known as the Constituency Scholarship and Talent Development Scheme, is designed to work in partnership with lawmakers at both national and state levels to support students through constituency-based funding arrangements.

According to the association, the programme is intended to reduce barriers preventing students from accessing quality education and global learning opportunities.

NANS President, Babatunde Akinteye, said the scheme goes beyond financial support, focusing instead on long-term academic and career development for beneficiaries.

“This initiative is a major step forward in ensuring that Nigerian students are not limited by geography or financial constraints. It is not just about awarding scholarships, but about creating pathways for long-term academic and career success,” Akinteye said.

He explained that the framework would allow legislators to direct constituency resources toward structured education support systems that directly benefit students.

The Director of International Projects and Partnerships, Comrade Abraham Adewoye, noted that the programme would also create international linkages through collaborations in the United Kingdom, United States, and Europe.

“What we are building is a bridge between Nigerian students and the global academic community. Through this programme, beneficiaries will gain exposure to international standards, networks and opportunities that prepare them for the future,” Adewoye stated.

He added that the scheme would be implemented across all constituencies in the country without exclusion.

“This opportunity is designed to touch every constituency in Nigeria. We are committed to ensuring that students from all parts of the country benefit from this programme,” he said.

Adewoye also assured that the initiative would be managed with accountability and clear performance tracking to ensure impact.

Under the programme, each constituency is expected to support a set number of students annually, while selected beneficiaries will also access international exposure opportunities.

NANS further urged lawmakers to adopt the scheme within their constituency development projects, noting that it aligns with existing education and youth empowerment frameworks.

The association said the initiative reflects its broader commitment to improving student welfare and expanding access to educational advancement opportunities nationwide.
