Nasarawa guber: Tribunal dismisses NNPP’s petition against Gov Sule

The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Lafia has dismissed the petition filed by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) contesting the declaration of Governor Abdullahi Sule as the duly elected Governor of Nasarawa state. The dismissal was based on a lack of merit, and no costs were awarded.

On March 20, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Sule from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor of the state’s governorship election, having garnered the highest number of votes.

He clinched a second term in office by obtaining 209 votes, surpassing his nearest rival, David Ombugadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 283,016 votes. Abdullahi Maidoya of the NNPP secured 11,726 votes.

Dissatisfied with the election results, both the PDP and NNPP, along with their respective gubernatorial candidates, sought the tribunal to overturn Sule’s win.

The three-member panel, headed by Justice Ezekiel Ajayi, delivered the judgment virtually in Lafia.
