Naval Chief warns officers against fraud, indiscipline, others

Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff, has warned Nigerian Navy personnel against indiscipline and fraud, among other things.

He stated that anyone found to be financially culpable in any heinous act would face severe punishment.

The Naval Chief spoke at the closing ceremony of the retreat for senior and commanding officers in Abuja on Tuesday night.

He also stated that senior officers would be held accountable for any misbehavior committed by men assigned to them.

“Let me warn you that severe sanctions would be imposed for any act of indiscipline, fraud, or connivance with criminal elements in the performance of your duties, He said.

You should be prepared to bear the full brunt of any misconduct committed by you or your men.

You will be assessed periodically, assigned key performance indicators, and would be expected to judiciously and legitimately deploy resources allocated to you.”

Reeling out the achievement of the Nigerian Navy in 2021, Gambo said made a gaint strides in securing the nation’s maritime environment.

He added that this has led to a reduction in piracy attacks on Nigeria waters.

He said, “Several arrests of crude oil thieves/illegal bunkering syndicates, pirates, smugglers, pipeline vandals, and other miscreants have been recorded in the past one year.

“It is heartwarming to note the significant decline in piracy attacks by 77 per cent on Nigerian waters as reflected in the International Maritime Bureau (IBM) Third Quarter 2021 report.”
