The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has urged airlines operating within the country to respect passengers’ rights amidst growing complaints of flight delays and cancellations.
At an interactive forum with airline representatives and stakeholders, NCAA Director General Chris Najomo emphasised the need for compliance with aviation regulations. He noted that frequent disruptions undermine passenger confidence and travel plans.
“Air travel must prioritise reliability, efficiency, and accountability. Delays and cancellations disrupt plans and cause financial losses,” Najomo said.
He reminded airlines of their obligations under the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulation and Consumer Protection Regulations, 2023, including informing passengers of schedule changes, providing compensation, and managing disruptions professionally, especially during harmattan-induced weather challenges.
Najomo also condemned unruly passenger behaviour, vowing to prosecute offenders who damage airport facilities or confront staff.
He warned airlines against selling tickets to destinations affected by adverse weather conditions and pledged intensified monitoring to enforce compliance.
