The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it has arrested an 83-year-old man, Pa John Ofiel, and a 78-year-old man, Ogunjobi Samuel, in separate drug-related operations in Abia and Ekiti states.
The arrests were confirmed in a statement on Sunday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi.
According to the statement, “Pa Ofiel was nabbed by NDLEA officers on Tuesday 28th April 2026 during a raid operation at Samek by Powerline, Aba, Abia state following credible intelligence that he was dealing in illicit substances.
“As at the time of his arrest, 700 grams of skunk, a strain of cannabis, packaged in retail sachets were recovered from him.”
The agency said the elderly suspect told investigators that he was once a shoemaker before going into the drug trade.
In a separate operation in Ekiti State, NDLEA operatives arrested Ogunjobi Samuel on Thursday, April 30, at his residence in Ilupeju-Ekiti over alleged drug peddling.
“350 grams of the same psychoactive substance were seized from him at the time of his arrest,” the statement added.
The agency also reported other drug-related arrests across Oyo, Osun, Borno, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Lagos states, involving multiple suspects and large quantities of illicit substances including cannabis, Tramadol, and methamphetamine.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Marwa (retd.), praised officers involved in the operations and urged them to maintain the momentum in the ongoing War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign.
