The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Command, has intensified its crackdown on drug-related activities, conducting major raids at notorious drug hotspots across the city.

The operation, carried out on 30th January, targeted areas known for drug trafficking and abuse, including Fagge, Kwarin Kaya, Kofar Wambai, and Kofar Mata. The raids led to the arrest of 18 suspects linked to various drug offences and the recovery of significant quantities of illicit substances.

Speaking on the development, NDLEA Public Relations Officer Sadiq Muhammad Maigatari reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to its mandate.

“This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to rid Kano of drug-related crimes. We stormed these identified hotspots and successfully apprehended suspects in possession of illicit substances, including Cannabis Sativa and Rubber Solution,” he stated.

Weapons Seized in Kwarin Kaya Raid

Maigatari, an Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics (ASN), further disclosed that locally made dangerous weapons were also recovered, particularly in Kwarin Kaya, where some suspects attempted to intimidate officers.

“The raid at Kwarin Kaya was particularly tense as some individuals tried to threaten our operatives from a distance. However, our officers remained resolute and ensured the operation proceeded without incident,” he added.

NDLEA Pledges Continued Action

The NDLEA State Commander, AI Ahmad, reaffirmed the agency’s determination to combat drug-related offences in Kano.

“We will continue to dismantle drug syndicates and ensure that those involved in drug trafficking and abuse face the full force of the law. The NDLEA is dedicated to securing our communities and making Kano a drug-free state,” Ahmad emphasised.

He assured that all arrested suspects would be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
