The Niger State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reported substantial achievements in its efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse in the state.
In a statement released by NDLEA Niger State Commandant, Shehu Godabawa, the agency disclosed a series of significant arrests and drug seizures during October 2024.
Throughout the month, the NDLEA successfully apprehended 38 individuals linked to various drug-related offenses, including drug trafficking, illegal possession, and dealing in prohibited substances.
The seized drugs weighed a total of 226.845 kilograms, marking a notable step in the fight against drug proliferation in the region.
Of those apprehended, eleven suspects, identified as drug dealers, have been formally charged and presented in court, underscoring the NDLEA’s commitment to prosecuting offenders and deterring future crimes.
Beyond enforcement, the NDLEA Niger State Command has been proactive in educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
In October alone, the agency conducted 37 sensitization programs across communities, schools, and public venues throughout the state, aiming to inform the public, especially young people, about the health risks and social impact of drug abuse.
Commandant Godabawa commended the dedication of his team, reaffirming the NDLEA’s commitment to fostering a drug-free society in Niger State through a balanced approach of enforcement, education, and rehabilitation.
“The NDLEA Niger State Command is determined to address the issue of drug trafficking and abuse through continuous enforcement and community-based awareness programs. We urge community members to support our efforts by reporting any suspicious drug-related activities,” Godabawa stated.
The NDLEA’s recent actions in October demonstrate the agency’s ongoing commitment to making Niger State a safer, healthier place by cracking down on the illegal drug trade and promoting awareness to prevent substance abuse.
