The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) warns of heavy rainfall and potential flooding in 13 states and 50 communities, primarily in Northern Regions, from Sept. 13 to 17.
Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA’s Lagos Territorial Coordinator, made this announcement in a statement released on Wednesday in Lagos.”
Farinloye identified the states and communities at risk, which encompass Kano State, including areas such as Sumaila and Kunchi.
He also noted that Kebbi State, specifically Argungu, and Katsina State, covering Bindawa, Jibia, Kaita, and other communities, are expected to be affected.
He also mentioned Niger State, specifically the communities of Kontagora, Mashegu, and New Bussa, as well as Kwara State and the community of Kosubosu.
“Zamfara State, with such communities as Kaura Namoda and Shinkafi; Bauchi State, with Bajoga, Darazo, Kirfi, Azare, Jama ‘are, Itas, Misau; Taraba, with Bali, Donga, Lau, Serti, Mutum-Biyu, Yorro, and Borno State, with Briyel, Biu, Dikwa, Kukawa will be affected,” he said.
He also mentioned that Adamawa, including communities such as Ganye, Mubi, Demsa, Jimeta, Mayo Belwa, Numan, Shelleng, and Song, as well as Yobe, covering Dapchi, Gashua, Geidam, Kanamma, Machina, and Potiskum, are expected to be impacted.
Gombe State, specifically Nafada, and Jigawa, encompassing Dutse, Gumel, Gwaram, and Miga communities, were among the other areas identified by the territorial coordinator as potentially affected.”
Farinloye warned that communities along the Rivers Benue and Niger, up to Bayelsa, should take precautionary measures in the coming days due to the rising water levels of the two rivers.
He acknowledged the National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Central Hub, and Federal Ministry of Environment Abuja for their predictions.
