The Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned of the risk of sudden flooding in the River Niger and River Benue Basin region, due to the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.

At a press conference in Abuja, Mr. Mustapha Ahmed, the Director General of NEMA, sounded a warning.

Mr Ahmed reports that states like Adamawa, Taraba, and Benue were already grappling with the severe flooding caused by the release of water from Lagdo Dam.

The agency urged states situated along the River Benue and River Niger Basin to swiftly implement their emergency response strategies. It cautioned that additional states in the basin are likely to face flooding in the coming days.
