On Monday, CP Wale Abass, a new commissioner of police, started his duties at the Delta State Command with the pledge “to build on existing security mechanisms already in place towards enthroning the reign of peace and safety.”
AIG Ari Muhammed Ali, the previous occupant of the position, has been transferred to Lagos State to serve as the Assistant Inspector General Zone 2. As a result, Abass will take over as the 21st Commissioner of Police in Delta State.
The new state police boss instructed teenagers not to allow themselves to be used in any illegal activity and urged the general public to always cooperate with the force and other security organisations.
Abass assured Deltans that the Command, under his direction, would make sure that the state became uncomfortable for criminals. He added that he was not new to Delta State and as such would carry on from where his predecessor left off.
Abass received his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science from the University of Lagos. He is from the Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State. The same university also awarded him a master’s degree in international law and diplomacy.
On March 3, 1990, he joined the Nigeria Police Force as a member of the prestigious Course 16 Cadet ASP and began his training at the prestigious Police Academy, Kaduna.
He has served in various capacities in the Nigeria Police Force which includes Unit Commander 16 Squadron (PMF), where he rose to become the Commander of the Squadron. He also served as Area Commander Mubi, Adamawa State; Area Commander Railway, Lagos State Railway Command; Assistant Commissioner of Police, State CID Delta State; Area Commander ‘C’ Surulere, Lagos State; Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, Yobe State; Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID Asaba, Delta State; Deputy Commissioner of Police Ogun State; and Deputy Commissioner of Police, SCID Oyo State Command.
He was appointed as the 21st Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, in 2022 after being raised to the position of Commissioner of Police and posted to the Benue State Command, where he served for a year and four months.
CP Abass is blessed with children and a happy marriage.
