The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed the appointment of Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The decision followed a meeting of the NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee in Abuja on Thursday, 2 January 2025. The recommendation to appoint Chelle, former head coach of Mali’s senior men’s national team, was endorsed by the NFF Executive Committee on Tuesday, 7 January.

According to the NFF, Chelle’s appointment takes immediate effect. His primary task is to guide the Super Eagles to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals, with crucial qualifiers scheduled for March.

Chelle, who earned five international caps for Mali during his playing career, has a managerial résumé that includes stints at clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran. He served as head coach of Mali’s national team from 2022 until his dismissal in June 2024.

The NFF expressed confidence in Chelle’s ability to lead the Super Eagles to success in upcoming competitions.
