In an effort to assist low-income schools, a nongovernmental organization called Brace-up The Young renovated three classroom blocks at the Lucida Ephataz Model School in Ilasa, Iyana-Iyesi, Ota, Ogun State on September 10.
The BTY “Better School Project” project, according to its organizers, sought to renovate 60 classrooms in 20 low-income schools in Nigeria.
The organization was founded in 2018 to mentor and teach young people from low-income neighborhoods to become innovative leaders, according to the group’s director, Obasanjo Fajemirokun.
Lamenting learning condition, the Director said, “Most students in low-income communities learn in dilapidated classrooms, without roofing, proper flooring, windows and doors. Some even learn under trees or in open fields due to the poor state of their school building affecting their learning outcomes.”
According to Fajemirokun, within five years, the project aimed to refurbish 57 more classrooms in 19 low-income schools in Nigeria.
Abiola Olaniyi, the school’s proprietress, expressed appreciation for the group and said that their intervention will enhance the teaching and learning process.
The treasurer, Awe Kayode, spoke on behalf of the chairman of the Community Development Association and praised the size of the group’s intervention.
He said that the organization had avoided closing down during the rain and interfering with educational efforts.
Senior student Rodiat Akinfenwa expressed excitement for the project and mentioned how the comfortable classrooms will help her learn.
Fajemirokun was grateful for the project’s financial support from contributors and The Pollination Project Grant.
