The Niger State House of Assembly has passed a bill raising the retirement age of academic staff in state-owned institutions from 65 to 70 years, while professors will now retire at 75 instead of 70.
The legislation was approved during Wednesday’s plenary after the House adopted the report of the Standing Committee on Education, presented by its chairman, Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris (Tafa constituency).
Idris explained that the adjustment brings the state in line with national standards and will help retain experienced lecturers, thereby enhancing the quality of education in Niger State.
Similarly, the Assembly also approved the Niger State Diaspora Agency Bill. Presenting the report of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Humanitarian and Disaster Management, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda, said that the law would enhance the State’s engagement with the diaspora community.
According to her, the agency would strengthen strategic investments, promote cultural exchanges, trade, and developmental projects with the aim of fostering economic development.
