Niger suffers heavy losses from EIGS’s Tilia attack

Nigerien authorities have confirmed the devastating details of this morning’s attack on the Eknewan base in Tilia, where Islamic State terrorists in the Greater Sahara (EIGS) launched a violent assault. According to the latest reports, 24 soldiers were killed, and eight others were taken captive by the militants.

The attackers caused extensive damage, burning six vehicles and seizing two. They also looted a significant amount of weapons and ammunition from the base, strengthening their operational capabilities.

The abduction of the eight soldiers adds to the urgency of the situation, as efforts to secure their release are underway. Although reinforcements have since regained control of the area, the scale of the attack highlights the increasing power and boldness of EIGS in the region.
