Nigeria, Ghana collaborate to fight hate speech

Nigeria and Ghana, two prominent countries in West Africa, have joined forces in their endeavors to combat the problem of hate speech in both nations.

In order to accomplish this objective, Ghana’s independent broadcasting organization is presently engaged in a meeting with its Nigerian counterpart in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

This information was revealed on Tuesday by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), which released a brief statement on its official Twitter account.

“Ghana independent broadcasting organization arrives Abuja, partners broadcasting organizations of Nigeria to tackle hate speech, improve professionalism and code of ethics,” the NTA tweeted.

The issue of hate speech in Nigeria is a serious problem that causes significant trouble. Just recently, the Osun State Police Command confirmed the apprehension of a 28-year-old individual named Kehinde Adekusibe, who allegedly incited inter-ethnic violence.

Adekusibe, who appears to be of Yoruba ethnicity from one of the South West states in Nigeria, purportedly posted a message on his Twitter account calling for the killing of all Igbos.

The arrest of Adekusibe was announced by the police spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement posted on his verified Twitter handle last Thursday.

Adejobi stated that Adekusibe was detained for sharing hateful content intended to incite ethnic violence in the country through his Twitter account on May 18, 2023.

Furthermore, the spokesperson mentioned that upon completion of the investigation, the suspect will be presented in court to face legal charges.
