Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has called for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the country is in capable hands under his leadership.

Fubara said Tinubu deserves a second term to consolidate ongoing reforms and developmental initiatives.

He made the remarks on Thursday while declaring open a meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt.

The gathering brought together traditional rulers from the 17 southern states across the South-East, South-West, and South-South regions to discuss unity, security, and economic development.

Fubara told participants that the Tinubu administration is making notable progress in reviving the economy and delivering key infrastructure projects, including coastal road developments, despite existing challenges.

He stressed the need for continuity in leadership, stating: “It is not ideal to change the goalposts in the middle of the game.”

The governor also urged stakeholders in the region to work together in unity to achieve shared goals, emphasising that cohesion is vital for sustainable development.

He added that hosting the meeting reflects Rivers State’s peaceful environment and readiness to accommodate major national engagements.

Earlier, the Chairman of the council and the Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, said the meeting was aimed at promoting peace and strengthening unity across the southern region.

The monarch noted that the council represents Nigeria’s diversity, with over 400 dialects spoken across the southern states, describing the gathering as a reflection of unity in diversity.

He added that the Port Harcourt meeting is the fourth in the series, following earlier sessions in Imo, Ogun, and Lagos states, and provides a platform for traditional rulers to discuss shared concerns and interests.

The meeting was attended by notable figures including the co-chairman of the council, the Obi of Obinugwu, Cletus Illomuanya, and the Olubadan of Ibadan, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
