Nigeria will officially assume the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G-24) from Argentina on 1 November 2025, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced on Wednesday via its official X handle.

The announcement follows the federal government’s 2024 call for increased investments and trade partnerships among G-24 member countries.

Established in 1971, the G-24 brings together developing nations to coordinate positions on global monetary policy and development financing, ensuring their collective voice is influential in international economic decision-making. “Nigeria will formally take office on 1 November 2025 and will unveil its Work Programme following proper consultation,” the CBN stated.

Speaking at the meeting, CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso, representing the Finance Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to enhancing the G-24’s role as a platform for inclusive dialogue and reform.

“Our focus will be on sustaining momentum in areas that matter most to our members. We look forward to collaborating with them to advance our shared mission of inclusive growth, equity, and global stability,” Cardoso said.

He added, “We are determined to ensure that the G-24 remains a formidable platform representing the common interests of emerging and developing economies.”
