The Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr Bosun Tijani, has announced that Nigeria is set to receive telecommunications equipment and fibre optic infrastructure valued at $3 billion by June 2025.
Speaking during a panel session at the Nigeria Development Update (NDU) organised by the World Bank, Dr Tijani disclosed that $1 billion worth of telecoms equipment is expected to arrive in mid-2025, while an additional $2 billion in fibre optic cables will follow to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure.
He stated that the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve communication services nationwide and close the digital connectivity gap.
A pilot phase, he noted, will soon be launched to provide access to over 20 million Nigerians currently without any form of telecommunications coverage.
The Nigeria Development Update is a bi-annual World Bank report reviewing the nation’s recent economic trends, policy strategies, and proposing solutions to pressing challenges.
