Thugs on Tuesday took over the protest ground used during the August #EndBadGovernance protest in Rumuokwuta, in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
This location had previously been announced as the gathering point for the “Fearless In October” demonstration, which aims to address the economic hardships facing the country.
However, armed hoodlums arrived at the site, declaring that they opposed any protests in Rivers State.
They threatened to assault any journalist who attempted to film them.
Meanwhile, similar protests are taking place in other cities, including Lagos and Abuja, as Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Day Anniversary.
The demonstrators are calling on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to reverse the removal of the petrol subsidy and the unification of foreign exchange rates, policies they argue are driving inflation and increasing the cost of living in the country.
