The U.S. Mission in Nigeria has instructed visa applicants to disclose all social media usernames and handles used within the past five years as part of their application process.

In a post shared on its official X account on Monday, the Mission explained that the directive aligns with the U.S. Department of State’s renewed commitment to strengthening national security through stricter screening procedures.

It noted that applicants must list all their social media accounts on the DS-160 visa application form.

The Mission further cautioned that failure to provide this information could result in visa denials and even render applicants ineligible for future U.S. visas.

The post read, “Visa applicants are required to list all social media usernames or handles of every platform they have used from the last 5 years on the DS-160 visa application form.”

“Applicants certify that the information in their visa application is true and correct before they sign and submit. Omitting social media information could lead to visa denial and ineligibility for future visas.”
